Quick Crochet Scarf ~ Blue

This scarf I made for my beautiful bonus Mom and I'm sure is the first of many that I will make.  It is a quick and easy craft,  uses one ball, can make up to two scarves, but I only chose to make one and took me a couple of hours to make.  Be careful not to loose a stitch, the webbing is very hard to pick back up.

I made one scarf from the ball of yarn, picked up five loops of the webbing not eight, crocheted till I had a length of 60", then completed the return.

Mint Posies Outfit

I just recently got back into crocheting, a craft my mother taught me years ago.  I thought my blog would be a nice place to share my creations.

My sister-in-law is expecting, which prompted me to pick up my crochet hook.  This is the first outfit I made.

Pattern book: Leisure Arts, Tender Touch Layettes by Sandra Abbate.  Outfit called Pink Posies.

Instead of making an elastic waist band, I created an edging on the top of the pants, allowing for a tie.  The tie I created by making a chain the length one and a half larger than the waist, I did one row of single crochet, then wove it through the edging.

Alzheimer's isn't just for the elderly and it's more than 'just a memory loss disease'.  If you think you or someone you know might be showing signs of this disease, please see your doctor.  Seek help from the Alzheimer's Society in your area.  Awareness is important in the fight against Alzheimer's.

The Fault in Our Stars

I’m very leery of reading in the young adult genre, due to the usual, overly fluffy topics, or the ever presence of vampires, werewolves, angels and other unworldly beings, yes I've read my share of these, I’ll be fair, but please, no more.

I waited until release date to make my purchase, to be certain no supernatural beings were involved. Nope definitely not, what we have here is a well written story about very mature teenagers dealing with a serious topic…CANCER.

Having known many adults, throughout my life who have battled this disease, some of whom have survived and others sadly not, I can’t possibly imagine the fear a parent must feel finding out their child has cancer, watching them deal with pain, knowing they cannot erase what their child is living through. What of that child? All that they have gone through? Growing up in pain, surgeries, treatments, in some cases nearing death, only to fight their way back but never truly being cancer free, living daily knowing that death is inevitable. Having considered these things I do not find it too far fetched to have characters in a novel older than their years.

I really like this book and definitely feel it deserves the four stars I’ve given it. I was thoroughly wrapped up in the emotion of this book; I laughed and cried then laughed and cried some more.

Would I re-read this book? Yes. Would I recommend this book to other readers? Most definitely.

Death Comes To Pemberly

Death Comes To Pemberley by P.D. James

This is the first novel I’ve read, written by P.D. James and Pride & Prejudice has to be one of my favourite books.

Death Comes to Pemberly, was much better then the Harlequin trashy type sequels that have been printed. One thing I’ve learned from reading the sequels, if you want a Jane Austen novel then re-read one. Don’t go looking for Pride & Prejudice in another book, it just isn’t there.

I didn’t care for the retelling of P&P, to me this is a sequel to the original story, what a great opportunity for new readers to be introduced to P&P, they want to know what happened they should read it. Not only did the retelling take up a lot of time in this book but it gave a view from the Meryton townsfolk regarding Elizabeth’s capture of Mr. Darcy that I personally didn’t care for.

I wasn’t surprised that Lydia was holding a grudge, but disappointed that Charlotte Lucas was. I didn’t feel that Charlotte was upset with Elizabeth in P&P after her marriage to Mr. Collin’s so why that carried into this book was a puzzle to me.

I would have liked more interaction between the Darcy’s and when the chance came at the end for some quiet time, their discussion seemed strange to me. After six years of marriage, you would think they would have ironed out their issues already.

Regardless of the negative points mentioned above, once started I was captured, pleased to spend time with beloved Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy.
